Burn Prop

We designed a building that will provide flexibility as well as the ability to simulate realistic training evolutions.  We have attempted to achieve this by designing a structure that has long hallways and large rooms.

  • The long hallways will help simulate long hose lays into structures to find the seat of a fire.

  • The large rooms will accommodate a large group of firefighters needed when an instructor and a class are in the rooms observing the various stages of fire development.

  • The two stories will allow us to complete ladder and roof operation evolutions, while also allowing us to simulate basement fires by entering on the 2nd story.

1st Floor Layout

The first floor will allow us to have three separate controlled live burn areas of different sizes.

2nd Floor Layout

The second floor contains an additional burn room (to simulate second story room and contents fire) and a large “non- burn” room.

The burn rooms will be lined with special tiles called "System 203™" provided by a company called High Temperature Linings (HTL) out of Virginia.  System 203™ is an interlocking refractory tile and encapsulated insulating material. System 203™ shields and protects the building  structures from the horrendous environments associated with live fire training. System 203™ is able to withstand repeated high temperatures and extreme thermal shock created during fire extinguishment training evolutions without spalling, cracking, splintering or other degradation.
